Elorm Ama Governor-Ababio, a Ghanaian YouTuber, social media influencer, and law student who was denied the right to be called to the bar in 2022, has responded to the Chief Justice’s justification.
Despite having completed and passed her bar test, the General Legal Council suspended Ama Governor’s call to the bar.
The council determined that she was unqualified to be admitted to the bar as a result of a complaint made against her behavior by Hajia Siduri.
Speaking on the issue at an event in Accra on Monday, July 31, 2023, Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo justified the reason the council had to put Ama’s call to the bar on ice.
“I was surprised at the furor that rose up concerning the call to the bar of certain people, and I thought, seriously?’’
Is this proper conduct for the legal sector? That is interesting. So, for you to come into the space of the legal sector, your conduct cannot be obscene and offensive, and you expect to be admitted. It doesn’t work like that. Your comments on social media and your ex parte communication with the judge are extremely critical,’’ the Chief Justice stated.
Ama Governor, who seems to have struggled emotionally after this whole controversy in a series of tweets sighted by 1Family Radio, has responded to the CJ’s comment.
“Respectfully, I am still waiting to be told what my improper conduct was from November 6, 2022, till date. I cannot handle this tarnishing of the image and the spread of false information about the true facts of the events that took place for much longer. This is cruel.’’
“I won the ‘case’, if you will, against the to-date unidentified petitioner. After my lawyer and I submitted our written legal response to the frivolous petition, it was thrown out in the very first hearing.”
