The approval of the Narcotics Control Commission Amendment Bill 2023 by parliament has prompted a reaction from politician and farmer John Dumelo of Ghana.
This law, which was enacted on Wednesday, July 12, 2023, allows for the growing of cannabis, also referred to as “wee,” for solely industrial and medical uses.
John Dumelo took to social media to express his joy over the bill’s passage and predicted that it would be a turning point in Ghana’s history.
The former actor revealed in a tweet seen by 1Family Radio that he would be expanding his line of work to include cannabis farming.
“I’m very excited that Parliament has passed the Narcotics Control Commission Amendment Bill 2023, which seeks to decriminalize the cultivation of cannabis for medicinal and industrial purposes.’’
“This is a defining moment in Ghana’s history, and as a farmer, adding the cultivation of cannabis to my portfolio for medicinal or industrial purposes is definitely something I’m looking forward to. God bless Ghana,’’ he wrote.
