According to Professor Richard Asiedu, the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) Central Regional Chairman, they are poised to snatch the Assin Central parliamentary seat from the NPP.

Hon. Kennedy Agyapong, the incumbent MP for Assin North, is currently vying to be the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Addressing residents of the Assin North Constituency on Sunday, July 9, 2023, Professor Asiedu urged Hon. Kennedy, whom he referred to as Mugabe, to forget about the Assin Central seat because it is the target of the NDC in the 2024 general elections.

“In his speech, which 1Family Radio was listening to, he said, The Assin region has in the past been considered the stronghold of the NPP, but we have changed the narrative.

“Assin has now become the stronghold of the NDC. We will hold two out of the three Assin seats in 2024, at the very least.’’

“Let me tell Assin Central that the ‘Mugabe’ who is on the seat should focus on his presidential bid; I will take the seat from them to the NDC,’’ he added.
