Kaywa, the CEO of Highly Spiritual Music, has opened up about why former signee Lasmid left his record label.
Kaywa claims that Lasmid intended to stay with his record label but was convinced to depart by some insiders.
Speaking in an interview on Joy Prime monitored by 1Family Radio, Kaywa, real name David Kojo Kyei, revealed that Lasmid didn’t have a contract with his label since he was given to him by the MTN Hitmaker organizers.
MTN gave Lasmid to me for a year for GHS 40,000 to produce two songs and two videos to promote two songs and videos. Outrageous. I put in all.’’
‘’Although he was no longer a part of the label, he wanted to stay, and I wanted him to stay as well. However, the young men in the industry felt that I was focusing more on him than them.’’
‘’So I gave him a personal call along with a few others. Let’s all agree. Let’s push you to the point where we at least have a hit song so that when we are signing you to the label properly, there won’t be any issues,’’ he disclosed.
Kaywa stated that he made a lot of investments in the music career of Lasmid because he had the young artist’s best interests at heart. However, things didn’t go as planned as Lasmid started having contact with some bigwigs in the industry.
‘’You’d be able to tell that we really went deep if I were to describe the investment. We spoke with him before moving on to the next level. The dialogue we had was sealed; it was not recorded, but it was sealed with both of our understandings sealed with evidence.’’
“Because of his growing fame and the influence of others in our group, the story abruptly changed,’’ Kaywa said.
‘’He even made a few selections while carefully reading the contract, and I encouraged his manager to take care of him however he saw fit because I had Lasmid’s best interests in mind,’’ he added.
