Ken Ofori-Atta, the Finance Minister of Ghana has stated that within the next few weeks, Ghana might secure the $3 billion bailout deal from the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
He stated that although some countries like Zambia and Chad begun their bailout process long before we initiated ours, we have been able to meet all the requirements of the IMF and this achievement must be appreciated by Ghanaians.
Speaking in an interview on Joy FM monitored by 1Family Radio, the minister noted that the country has made significant progress in regards to the IMF program.
“We have literally broken all records regarding the debt restructuring program and I think this feat must be recognize and appreciated by Ghanaians,’’ he said.
Ken Ofori-Atta explained that the country began its debt restructuring process with the IMF on the 1st of July, 2022 but we’ve been able to conclude our Service-Level Agreement (SLA) and our debt exchange.
“We began on July 1 and we have been able to gain record time and get our SLA completed, the domestic debt exchange program and the Paris Club have met twice already, and we are expecting them to give us their assurances withing the next couple of weeks.’’
He added, “I think the has really worked very fast and we must all appreciate his efforts.’’
