Richardson Commey Fio, the Acting Director of Planning, Research, Monitoring and evaluation of Ghana’s National Commission on Culture has asserted that TikTok has become a platform for posting inappropriate and indecent materials by some Ghanaians.
According to him, the Ghanaian culture advocates decency and morality however, TikTok which is dominated by the youth of the country has become a center for all sort of immoral content and materials.
Mr. Richardson indicated that most celebrities becomes famous on TikTok because of the things they post on the platform which are sometimes a menace to the norms of Ghana. He added that more than half of the videos by Ghanaian female Tiktokers are all about twerk and ass exposure. He quizzed if this is because of greed, fun or popularity.
The NCC director hinted that ladies who are desperate to become celebrities tend to post nude pictures and messages centered on profanity and sex. He added that, these contents are slowly teaching the younger ones to become deviant individuals.
He noted that all though TikTok has a lot of advantages, the users are abusing the platform and using it for the wrong purposes. Mr. Richardson furthered that some of the videos shared by Ghanaian female TikTokers are prohibited from China, the origin of the app.
He called on the Ministry of Interior, National Intelligence Bureau and the management of the social media space to look for the best way to control the cyberspace in Ghana.
