His excellence Akuffo addo has hinted that the debt restructuring negotiations with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), will be finalized by March,2023. He made this statement after his meeting with the Finance Minister of Germany.
The Finance minister of Germany, Christian Linder visited the Jubilee House on February 3,2023. He indicated that the government Germany will aid Ghana to conquer the current economic crisis during a bilateral meeting with the president.
Linder also mentioned that he has already discussed with the Finance Minister of Ghana, Ken Ofori Atta on how the Germany government intends on supporting Ghana out of its economic hardship.
The president of Ghana is certain that the IMF deal will be concluded by March because the problems relating to the Domestic Debt Exchange Program (DDEP), which was a condition for the debt restructuring is almost concluded. He stated that when the DDEP is finalized, it will help the government conclude the deal with the IMF.
According to him, all that needs is be done has been taken care of. The only issue now is to conclude the deal with the IMF and to secure the assistance to help in the debt restructuring program.
He stated that the government has been able to secure a staff level agreement with the IMF and despite the fact that DDEP is met a lot of challenges it has been finalized.
President Akuffo Addo added that the government anticipating to get into the full hog of the deal but they are hopeful that the deal with the IMF will be finalized in March.
