Iddrisu will be contesting in the 2024 parliamentary race for the Tamale South Haruna Constituency on the ticket of the NDC unopposed once again as his only contender has been disqualified from the race.
The Northern Regional Vetting Committee of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) disqualified Bawah Abdul Fataw, the sole contender of the incumbent lawmaker on grounds that he hasn’t been an active member of the party for the past four years which is a requirement for parliamentary aspirants.
In a letter sighted by 1Family Radio, it was noted according to Article 41(8)(b) of the NDC Constitution, “a member shall not be qualified to contest the primaries for a parliamentary seat if the person is not an active member of the party at the constituency level for four years immediately preceding the date of filling nomination.’’
According to the letter issued by the vetting committee, which was spearheaded by Godwin Ako Gunn, Mr. Fataw admitted to the fact that he hasn’t been an active member of the party for four years as required by the party’s Constitution while adding that he was just a voter in the constituency.
The letter furthered that Mr. Fataw’s contentions were borne out of misinterpretation of article 41(8)(b) of the NDC Constitution.
“By virtue of this, the Northern Regional Vetting Committee of the Party has been left with no other choice but to inform you that you are disqualified to contest in the party’s upcoming primaries for the Tamale South Constituency,’’ the letter read.
