Prosper Harrison, the General Secretary of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has been sentenced to one day imprisonment by an Accra High Court on Tuesday, April 4, 2023.
Mr. Harrison was convicted for contempt and was fined an amount of GH¢ 24, 000 by the court because of this. But his lawyer made payments for the fine rescuing him from the one day in jail sentence.
The Ashanti Gold filed the contempt suit against the GFA after they begun the 2022/23 Betpawa Premier League regardless of the ban placed on the season.
According to the ruling of the judge, Sheikh Tophic Seinu who is a non-executive council member was also fined GH¢ 12,000 and also sentenced to one day in jail just like Harrison.
“If any of them defaults in making payments of the fines, that person will serve a fourteen days imprisonment sentence,” GFA stated in a press statement sighted by 1Family Radio.
The GFA furthered that a day’s imprisonment implies that once the fines are paid, the sentence has been served and the judge in charge ends his sitting for the day.
Both parties were able to make payments immediately after the hearing which implies that none of them will serve the one- day jail sentence by the court.
