Bobrisky’s attorney has filed an appeal with the court, asking for a 50,000 Niara fine for each charge in place of the crossdresser’s verdict. Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, is a controversial personality who filed a notice of appeal on Monday, contesting the maximum punishment of six months imposed by a federal high court in Lagos.
This comes after the EFCC detained him and charged him with “four counts of niara abuse.” Recall that Bobrisky entered a guilty plea before Justice A.O. Awogboro of the Lagos Federal High Court. He was then given a six-month jail sentence without the chance to pay a fine.
The judge stressed at the announcement of his decision that the goal of it was to discourage people from spray-painting the Naira at festivals. However, Bimbo Kusanu, Okuneye’s lawyer, has filed a notice of appeal, asking the court to overturn the maximum penalties.
Nevertheless, Okuneye’s attorney, Bimbo Kusanu, has lodged a notice of regret, urging the court to invalidate the maximum sentence.
He asked the court to replace the sentence with the option of a 50,000-naira fine for each case.
In his apologies, he asked the attorney to impose the hardest sentences on Bobrisky, who has no prior criminal convictions.
Kasanu points out that under the under the Administration of Criminal Justice Act [ACJA], there are alternatives for lesser sentences.
