Laryea Kingston, a former midfield player for the Black Stars, has disclosed that Asamoah Gyan is still grieving about losing the captaincy to Dede Ayew.
Every time Gyan talks about how he lost the armband, Laryea, who feels that Gyan was stripped from his captaincy by force, can still see the agony in Gyan’s eyes.
“Asamoah Gyan is not happy. Dede Ayew earned the captaincy by force. Look at someone like Asamoah Gyan.”,” he told Graphic Sports, which was sighted by 1Family Radio.
Asamoah Gyan was named general captain ahead of the 2019 AFCON by former Black Stars head coach Kwesi Appiah, who gave the official captaincy to Andre Dede Ayew.
Kwasi Appiah gave an explanation for his choice, which many attributed to Ghana’s early exit, saying that it was the right one.
It all comes down to acting morally. I was unable to take Gyan’s captaincy and award it to Christian Atsu. Give it to whoever deserves to assume the helm, he said to Dan Kweku Yeboah TV on YouTube.
Laryea has experienced significant heartache as well after being left out of Ghana’s World Cup squads in 2006 and 2010. He then decided to retire rather than compete in the World Cup. He said he never supported the team until he recently found a way to let go.
“I never supported the Black Stars because of what they did to me for so many years, but recently I said, ‘Enough, let me be vigilant.'” He shot back.
Laryea Kingston’s name has surfaced as one of the suggested candidates for the open Black Stars position. Many think the former player for Hearts of Oak is headed in the right direction as a coach and has what it takes to be successful.
