Following some religious remarks made by Sam Nartey George, the Member of Parliament for Ningo Prampram, the Chief Imam, Osman Huhu Sharabutu, has gained popularity on social media.
The politician referred to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the leader of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), as a “religious prostitute” in an attempt to disparage him.
Sam George said during an interview on Metro TV that Bawumia is a religious prostitute because he concurrently professes both the Muslim and Christian faiths.
The politician went on to provide more clarification, citing times when Dr. Bawumia said nothing about matters that mattered most to Muslims, such as the Hijab scandal and the assassinations of Muslim youth in Kumasi.
He asserts that a devout Muslim will never bow down before men of God for prayer or openly acknowledge Jesus as Lord and Savior. Sam George said that these actions do not characterize the kind of sincere Muslim that Dr. Bawumia claims to be.
“When issues of hijabs came up in this country for Muslim girls, did you ever hear Dr. Bawumia speak? When the issue of fasting for girls came up during Ramadan, he was silent. When the Muslim Zongo youth were killed in cold blood in Kumasi, Dr. Bawumia was silent.’’
“No true Muslim anywhere in the world believes that Jesus Christ is our Lord and Savior. No true Muslim kneels before a Catholic priest or a pastor to lay hands on them—only Bawumia,’’ Sam George noted.
Right after this, some social media users have also implied—using Sam George’s analogy—that the chief Imam is also a “religious prostitute.”
Some X users claim that the Chief Imam has been photographed kneeling before a Catholic priest and letting them place their hands on his head. Per the statement of the MP, the Chief Imam is also a “religious prostitute.”
