Desmond Kwesi Blackmore, a Ghanaian musician and entrepreneur better known as D-Black in the entertainment industry, has revealed how his parents forced him to attend the University of Cape Coast (UCC) even though he had originally preferred the University of Ghana (UG) in Legon.
D-Black clarified that although his parents had other ideas for him, he had always wanted to attend the University of Ghana in Legon. He reluctantly submitted to their demands and enrolled at UCC, but he wasn’t happy about the decision because he thought it would prevent him from pursuing his musical career.
In an interview with Bryt TV, which 1Family Radio aired, D-Black described how he ultimately chose to pursue his musical career by enrolling at UG Legon and quitting UCC.
“I came out of secondary school straight into music, and my parents weren’t too happy. They kicked me out of the house. I’ve mentioned it many times, but I went to the University of Cape Coast.’’
“My parents made sure I went to the University of Cape Coast, but I wanted to go to Legon (UG). So while I was at UCC, I was watching TV. I was watching shows like ‘Hello Tigo’ and stuff. I saw boys being interviewed and going places. So I’d leave school and come to Accra, but nothing would happen. Then I’d go back,’’ he narrated.
D-Black added that one of the biggest things that helped his music career was being able to access recording studios after choosing to transfer from UCC to UG Legon.
“I decided, you know what? This year, I’m not going back to UCC. So I admitted myself to Legon. I took my letter without my parents knowing about it. So I spent my final two years at Legon.’’
“I had access to a studio in Legon, and the studio was owned by JSO, so I was staying at DJ Mensah’s house in Madiina. I’d go from his house in Madina to classes at Legon,’’ he added.
