Shatta Wale, the King of Africa Dancehall, has shared candidly about the challenges he faces as a famous individual in Ghana and how he tackles them.
In a BBC interview that 1Family Radio heard, he stated that he wanted to be genuine and honest with people.
Shatta Wale juxtaposed his experiences in Ghana with those in the UK, stating that he wishes to feel regular when offstage and that going to locations like London enables him to do so because he isn’t allowed to roam around freely in Ghana.
I think I’m brutally honest. I want to be honest with people. I want to be real with people. When I’m offstage, I want to feel like a normal human, so actually coming here to London is giving me that feeling because when I’m in Ghana, I can’t get to places,’’ he noted.
The popular artist also talked about how, in an attempt to feel normal, he reacts harshly to criticism on social media because it makes him feel like he’s living on the streets.
“Sometimes I feel like I want to eat fufu in a chop bar or a public place, but I don’t get that, and that’s a huge problem for me.’’
“So that’s why when people get at me on social media, I just go live and just speak to them like I’m on the street,’’ he added.
Speaking of being a celebrity as being imprisoned in one’s own house, Shatta Wale revealed that he must leave the house and attend meetings at night because his movements during the day could cause disturbances.
“It’s not easy to be a star; it’s like you’ve bought a yard, built a whole prison yard, and you’ve locked yourself up every time.’’
“So people need to understand that it’s not easy for me. Because in Ghana, I can’t drive in the mornings or afternoons, I have to hold all my meetings at night,’’ he said.
