Ghanaian singer and TV personality Deborah Owusu-Bonus, professionally known as Sister Derby, has lambasted anti-LGBT advocates in the country.
She contends that rather than single out LGBT people, such advocates should focus their efforts on combating pedophilia and child marriages.
The African Mermaid remarked that it is wrong to single out and humiliate LGBT individuals who are not harmful during an interview with Bryt TV that was monitored by 1Family Radio.
“Why do you want to impose that kind of oppression on someone else? If they haven’t harmed you or if they haven’t engaged with a minor, whether you are gay or straight, touching a minor is a crime. That is pedophilia,’’ she said.
“We do not tolerate it. But if people are making a big fuss about this, why aren’t we channeling that energy into combating child marriage? That is pedophilia, that is rape, that is slavery, and that is molestation, all rolled into one. Think about it,’’ Sister Derby added.
