Azeez Fashola, a Nigerian artist and the head of Marlian Records, also known as Naira Marley, has once again refuted claims that he was responsible for the death of his ex-signee Mohbad.
The accusations emerged after a video that appeared online sparked an uproar on social media. An associate of Naira Marley named Sam Larry was seen in the video trying to intimidate Mohbad while breaking into Zlatan’s music video filming.
After Mohbad passed away, netizens suspected Naira Marley of instigating his friend Sam Larry and other others to verbally assault and harass the late musician following his exit from Marlians Records.
These allegations have been addressed by Naira Marley in an official statement posted on his Instagram page and seen by 1Family Radio.
He acknowledged that, as is common in other industries, they had differences of opinion throughout their working relationship, but that, at the time of Mohbad’s premature demise, these differences had already been adjudicated in court.
“I would like to clearly state that I have never fought or attacked Mohbad. For the avoidance of doubt, I have never instructed anyone—friends, known associates, or fans—to attack, bully, or harass Mohbad. With regret for the talent on the label, none of our artists ever fought or mistreated Mohbad,’’ parts of the statement read.
“Permit me to categorically state that I have no hand in the death of Llerioluwa, either directly or indirectly. It is not unusual in the industry, just like in several other industries, to have family friction, even among blood relatives.’’
“I am certain that the culprit behind his death has a vendetta against me and is fueling public opinions to have me lynched for reasons known to them. In due time, the circumstances surrounding Mohbad’s death will be unveiled, and the world will know the truth,’’ it added.
