The Black Stars of Ghana have fallen in the most recent September 2023 FIFA rankings.
Ghana has performed well under Chris Hughton and has already qualified for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) since the rankings were last updated in June.
Prior to defeating the Lone Stars of Liberia 3-1 in an international friendly at the Accra Sport Stadium, the Black Stars had defeated the Central African Republic.
Just before it, Ghana had held Madagascar scoreless in an AFCON qualifying match which was monitored by 1Family radio.
Ghana is currently placed 60th overall, but it is still outside the top 10 in Africa, trailing the top five countries on the continent—Morocco, Senegal, Tunisia, Algeria, and Egypt.
The top 10 in Africa are completed by Nigerians (40, Cameroon, Mali, Ivory Coast, and Burkina Faso.
World Cup winners The top spot in the world rankings has remained with Argentina, which is followed by France and Brazil, respectively.
In a top five that is the same as it was in the July 2023 edition of the worldwide ranking, Belgium and England both hold onto their positions at #4 and #5.
Following the leading group are Portugal (8th), Croatia (6th), the Netherlands (7th), and Croatia (6th), the only team among the top to move up a spot. After being held to a 1-1 draw by North Macedonia in their UEFA EURO 2024 qualifying match, Italy (9th) drops down a spot. Spain rounds out the top 10 list.
