Shatta Wale, the controversial and self-acclaimed “king of Africa dancehall,” has finally spoken up about what caused him and fellow singer Sarkodie to fall out some years ago.
Shatta Wale and Sarkodie’s once inviolable relationship became clouded by scandals and strife, triggering fans to linger as to what really caused their breakup.
However, the dancehall king explained the circumstances surrounding their breakup in a Twitter Space with Serwaa Amihere that was followed by 1Family Radio.
Shatta Wale claims that the iconic Glory Mega-Concert on October 25, 2018, became a trigger for their contention.
It was a huge event that would later prove to be crucial in the development of Shatta Wale and Sarkodie’s feud.
Shatta Wale claims that during an initial conversation, they both decided to request a payment of $150,000 for their contributions to the Glo deal. Their budgetary request was unified, which revealed their togetherness and common objectives.
When it came to accomplishing the deal, the narrative, however, took a surprising twist. For unspecified reasons, Sarkodie chose to accept GH120,000 from Glo rather than the initial $150,000.
The discrepancy between their original understanding and the ultimate deal sowed the seed of resentment between the two.
“They paid him like GH¢120,000, but we had agreed on $150,000, and this matter dates from 4 to five years ago, so when I heard it, I was like, I spoke to this person a few days ago, so I called him and I asked him, and he said, Yes, they’ve paid us good money, but I told you they can pay more even in dollars,’’ he revealed.
Shatta Wale’s contribution was overlooked by the organizers, who gave him $131,000 rather than the intended $150,000. This was a stinging blow to Shatta Wale.
Shatta Wale’s conviction about his value and place in the industry was severely damaged by this action.
Not only within the industry but also among their ardent followers, the effect of their actions is still being felt.
