Ghanaian popular rapper Sarkodie, born Michael Owusu Addo, has clarified certain misconceptions about his song “Try Me.”
This song was supposedly released by Sarkodie in retaliation to several allegations made in Yvonne Nelson’s memoir, “I Am Not Yvonne Nelson.’’
The rapper, however, claims that his original intent was to simply hang onto this song after writing it, but it was leaked by some unknown person.
Speaking in an interview on the Way Up with Angel Show, monitored by 1Family Radio, Sarkodie revealed that his team was unaware that he had recorded the track until it was released.
“That’s funny; my team is here. People think my team is in support of the record; none of them knew I did a record because I was on tour; I was actually on tour when it happened.’’
“Sometimes when I feel something, the lyrics come to me right there, and then I sneak into the studio to record them.
When the host said, “It felt like someone leaked it first; maybe you didn’t even intend to put it out,” he responded in the affirmative.
“It was in the middle of the night, around 2 a.m., and I saw Twitter going crazy. I had no idea because I didn’t give it to anyone.’’
“I did it just to hold on to it, then it came out, and I was just like, let me put it out. I did it personally for myself,’’ he said.
