Two domestic helpers of Cecilia Abena Dapaah and her husband, Daniel Osei Kuffour, are accused of stealing money and other valuables worth millions of Ghana Cedis and are being prosecuted in an Accra Circuit Court.
The suspects, Patience Botwe, 18, and Sarah Agyei, 30, have been charged with five counts of theft and conspiracy to commit a felony.
The housemaids are accused of stealing personal items from Hon. Cecilia Abena Dapaah including a variety of garments costing GH95,000 as well as handbags, perfumes, and jewelry worth US$95,000 from her.
The alleged theft took place between July and October 2022. The money was allegedly stolen from the couple’s room at their residence in Abelemkpe.
According to a report by ‘The Chronicle,’ the first defendant, Patience, is being brought before the same court alongside her father as well as her present and former lovers.
Benjamin, a 29-year-old plumber, was reported to have obtained GH180,000; Kweku Botwe, a 65-year-old businessman, was also accused of receiving GH50,000; and Malik Dauda, a 23-year-old unemployed man, was accused of dishonestly receiving GH1 million.
On Thursday, July 20, 2023, Susana Ekuful, the court’s chief justice, arraigned all five accused people before an Accra Circuit Court.
However, Sarah has been admitted to bail in the amount of GH1,000,000 with two sureties, despite the fact that their pleas have not yet been heard.
The bail restriction is subject to review by the substantive judge, according to Her Honor Susana Ekuful, who was acting as a relief judge.
Patience and her alleged lovers have both been placed in legal custody. Because Sarah is a nursing mother, bail was granted.
