According to Kissi Agyepeng, Ghana’s Special Prosecutor, an investigation is being done into the illegal small-scale mining report written by Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng, a former environment minister.
Additionally, he said that the Special Prosecutor’s Office would look into everyone named in the report.
Kissi stressed that no effort will be spared in the fight against illicit mining, also known as galamsey, in this nation during an interview on Joy Prime’s Newsfile on Saturday, June 10, 2023, which 1Family Radio monitored.
“Galamsey, as I keep saying, is highly pervasive and has engulfed our entire nation; therefore, we are searching every possible avenue. We have taken off our gloves and are approaching anyone and everyone who, in our opinion, should be brought in before us. Every single person,” he remarked.
In response to the query about the individuals his team had so far questioned, the Special Prosecutor made it clear that he was unable to provide such information due to the risk of obstructing the investigation.
”This is very dicey because it is a live investigation; it is still ongoing, and sometimes, depending on what you put out in public, you might jeopardize the nature of the investigation.’’
“For example, if I said I had ordered you to appear before the Office of the Special Prosecutor, someone who is your acquaintance would assume they are next, so I wouldn’t want to reveal the information, he said.
“But many people have already appeared before us, and many more will soon do so. We are battling this and will see it through to completion,” Kissi continued.
