Executive Director of the Alliance for Social Equity and Public Accountability (ASEPA), Thompson Mensah has chided the Vice President over his recent presidential bid.
According to him, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has failed as the head of the country’s Economic Management Team and this disqualifies him from contesting for the presidency.
Speaking in an interview on Peace FM monitored by 1Family Radio, Thompson noted that we are suffering to secure an IMF deal for the first time in the history of the country.
“Ghanaians are going through one of the most difficult economic situations in the history of the country. For the first time under Dr. Bawumia, we are struggling to get an IMF deal. This is unprecedented,’’ he stated.
“We didn’t suffer like this when we went into HIPC in 2000/2001. Just to secure an IMF deal, Dr. Bawumia couldn’t deliver. As the head of the Economic Management Team, the Vice President has failed,’’ Thompson said.
He continued that so many taxes have been introduced unto the market despite the plight of Ghanaians.
“Currently, there are about seventeen different taxes on petroleum products. Three years after Covid, we are still paying Covid tax, we pay taxes on sanitation and pollution. And Bawumia wants us to applaud him because he has done something extraordinary.’’
The ASEPA boss furthered that he wonders the kind of message the vice president would be selling to Ghanaians in order for them to elect him as the president.
“What message at all is the vice president bringing to solicit for the votes of Ghanaians? What new thing will he tell Ghanaians?’’ he quizzed.
“Your own party doesn’t even have confidence in you, as an incumbent vice president just take a look at the number of people contesting him,’’ Thompson added.
