Ghanaian rapper Sarkodie has in a series of tweets lambasted the Ghanaian government for sitting on the country’s resources while allowing foreigners to dictate for us.
He made these statement in reaction to a video which analyzed some reasons Dr. Kwame Nkrumah was overthrown. The video in question captured opinions shared in Nkrumah’s book titled ‘Neo-Colonialism: The Last Stage of Imperialism which was published in 1965.
According to the video, one negative effect of neo-colonialism is that foreign capital is used for the exploitation of less developed countries and not for their development which increases the gap between the developed and less developed countries in the world.
Reacting to the video, Sarkodie has stated that it is about time we checked the track record of people we give power to because the discipline and commitment needed in a leader cannot be overlooked.
The tweets which were sighted by 1Family Radio stated, “typical politicians are trained not to build anything but just to fulfil political ambitions (just to win power). It is about time we check the track records of leaders we give power to. The discipline, commitment and resilience needed in a leader cannot be overlooked.’’
He continued that we have great minds in this country who are have achieved a lot with little resources and such people deserve to be hailed.
“We have a lot of great minds in this country who have proven in their own way how they can make something out of nothing with little resources and maintain it for a long period of time. Such people deserve to be empowered.’’
Sarkodie furthered, “We can’t sit on all these resources and always sit humbly in front of other foreigners (with not that much resources) asking for help. At this point we should be talking collaborations only and still maintain full ownership.’’
“When you don’t want to be responsible you should be fine with outsiders telling you what to do,’’ the landlord said.
