The National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, Stephen Ayesu Ntim has alleged that the NPP government was managing the Cedi well until the outbreak of Covid-19 and the war.
He noted that comparing how the Cedi was performing under the Akuffo-Addo led administration to that of Mahama’s administration, the NPP has done a good job managing the Cedi.
Mr. Ntim made this statement during a press conference held in Accra on the 4th of April, 2023 which 1Family Radio monitored.
The politician disclosed that the government is not contented with the current level of the country’s inflation rate and they are doing everything possible to get the economy back on track.
According to Mr. Ntim, their predecessors left an almost collapsed economy but the NPP government was able to rescue from total bankruptcy prior the outbreak of Covid-19 and the Russia-Ukraine war.
“The Mahama led administration inherited a buoyant economy but they left a crumpled economy for the NPP party. However, we were able to get the economy back on track,’’ he stated.
He reiterated that the current government has managed the economy far better than the previous government.
“We managed the Ghana Cedi very well before the outbreak of the pandemic and the war. The NPP government handled the Cedi with an average depreciation rate of 6.8% from 2017 to 2021 as compared to Mahama’s record of an average depreciation rate of 18% from 2013 to 2016,’’ he added.
