The lead convenor of the FixTheCountry movement and also a Ghanaian lawyer, Mawuse Oliver Barker-Vormawor has promised to provide pro bone legal representation to anyone who was brutalized by the military men that stormed Taifa in Ashaiman.
According to him, the military have no powers to enforce laws in the country and hence they cannot investigate crimes which are committed by civilians.
In a post he shared on his Facebook page which was sighted by 1Family Radio, Mr. Barker lamented over the rampant way in which the military personnels roam in the streets and have decided to take the law into their own hands.
He however noted that he is against the killing of the young soldier in Ashaiman but that doesn’t mean the military officials can just storm the area and brutalize the civilians there. Barker-Vormawor furthered that the military cannot be take the law into their own hands and revenge for a crime committed by a civilian under a democratic governance.
“I am willing to provide pro bono legal representation to anybody who was injured, brutalized, or even detained by the military for their stupidity in Ashaiman,’’ he noted. He continued “if you know any victim, direct them to my inbox.”
According to him, all Ghanaian lawyers must ground the rule of law in the face of institutionalized tyranny.
