Ex-President John Dramani Mahama has clarified why he won’t join the celebration of the 66th Independence-day in Ho.
According to him, the celebration which is supposed to be a national event has been diverted into a political gathering by the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Speaking to the media monitored by 1Family Radio, the former president indicated that he doesn’t want to associate himself with the NPP and hence he will not be at Ho. He alleged that the NPP gave branded party shirts to their supporters to wear to the venues which is not right.
He furthered that some years ago when the celebration was observed at Tamale in the Northern region, he was instructed to seat outside the podium and the camera crew from Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) were ordered not to film him.
“I don’t want to associate myself with an NPP jamboree therefore I’ll not be going to Ho,”he noted.
The former president however noted that he will attend the independence-day celebration if it is not done based on the interest of one political party but the whole nation.
