Hon. Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonus, the MP for Suame and the Majority leader in parliament has stated how he has forfeited some entitlement of his to help government restore macroeconomic stability in the country.

As part of the measures to curb the current economic challenges, the government had been asked to rationalize its expenditure to shift the burden from the citizens.

Speaking in an interview on JoyNews PM Express sighted by 1Family Radio, the lawmaker stated that he no longer takes the fuel coupon allocated to him as the majority leader. This is to help the country out of the economic hardship.

Mensah-Bonsu furthered that he has reduced the allowances he receives in 2021 by more than half percent and as the majority leader, he has cut down on some of his expenditure. He added that there is more he can do to help the government in the current economic crisis.

He also noted that the government has done pretty well in managing the current economic crisis although it can do more.  Kyei Mensah furthered that the 30% of the ministers’ salary has to be relinquished to other ventures. He mentioned that the government will not set up any new bureaucracies.

The lawmaker urged Ghanaians to help those in need if they have the means to do so because we are in difficult times. He added that while the government is trying to  restore economic stability, we should all play our individual roles to assist the government.
