Mr. Samuel Dubik Masubir Mahama, the Managing Director of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has refuted claims that the revenue mobilization exercise by the company is targeted at a particular political party.
He explained that the exercise is aimed at mobilizing revenue for the power distributing company to settle their debt to the Independent Power Producers (IPPs).
Speaking in an interview on JoyNews monitored by 1Family Radio, Mr. Mahama indicated that he doesn’t wish to politicize the office of the ECG. He furthered that he doesn’t see himself as a politician but a technocrat.
“The worst mistake I could ever make is to politicize the work of the ECG. Your electricity bill has no party color. The colors of your electricity bill are red, gold and the green with a black star at the center, that’s your electricity bill.
He urged the general public to understand that this exercise by the ECG is not politically motivated or targeted at a particular party. The MD added that this exercise was necessitated by the need to ensure that citizens pay their bills on time.
Mr. Mahama apologized to anyone who feels disrespected and humiliated by this exercise. He asserted, “I understand some Ghanaians feel insulted, it was never our intention to scorn and embarrass anybody.’’
‘’We have an injunction which we must discharge,’’ he stated.
