A total of 541,529 Ghana Cards are expected to be printed by the end of March, 2023 by the National Identification Authority (NIA).
The NIA has announced the accelerated printing of the backlog of 541,529 cards since July 2022. The printing of these cards came to a halt due to the NIA indebtedness to its suppliers.
However, a statement release by the authority has disclosed that the commencement of the expedited printing of the cards follows the payment of GH¢100 million by the government to the CalBank PLC.
In the statement issued by the Communications Director of the NIA, it was noted that preparatory works for the accelerated printing of the cards commenced on Wednesday, March 15, 2023.
These works included the configuration of printers, print servers, laminators and also the deployment of additional workers from the Regional and District offices of the authority to the Head Office.
The statement sighted by 1Family Radio indicated, “the printing of the blank cards is expected to last for 11 days, ending on March 29, 2023.’’
After three days of preparatory works, the printing of the blanks cards commenced on the 18th of March, 2023.
After the completion of the cards, they will be made accessible at the Regional and District Offices of the NIA nationwide. The authority furthered that it will announce to the general public when the registered person should go to their offices for the issuance of their cards.
The statement concluded that the NIA stands committed to serving the public in dignity and integrity while they still remain focused as a responsive and an accountable public sector institution.
