The funeral of the late Rev. Anthony Kwadwo Boakye, the founder and general overseer of the Resurrection Power New Generation Church, has been halted by a high court injunction.
After the late pastor’s widow, Rev. Mrs. Margaret Boakye, requested the court’s interpretation on the subject, the burial, which is scheduled for Saturday, August 5, 2023, has been enjoined.
After an extended illness, the late Rev. Anthony passed away on February 21, 2023. The widow, his family, and his church thereafter experienced a lot of issues and misunderstandings.
One of these misunderstandings emerged when the late pastor’s widow was prohibited from attending the pastor’s one-week ceremony on the premises of his church.
The widow subsequently petitioned the Kumasi High Court, requesting, among other things, that the burial set for August 5 be halted.
She also requested the permission of the court to have her marriage to the late pastor recognized, so she could be granted a chance to exercise all of the customary widowhood rights as a result.
“A declaration that as a potential surviving widow of the late Rev. Anthony Boakye, the plaintiff is customarily and legally entitled as of right to perform and observe the requisite burial widowhood rites of her (the plaintiff’s) late husband and mourn him as a custom requires of a surviving without any form of resistance or hindrance from the defendants or anyone whatsoever,’’ parts of the writ noted.
