Frank Annoh-Dompreh, the majority chief whip and the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) candidate for Nsawam-Adoagyiri, has claimed that the party will vote for Vice President Bawumia as its flagbearer and no one else.
He advised Alan Kyerematen, the former minister of trade and industry, to abandon his presidential campaign because it is unlikely that he would have the necessary backing from party delegates.
Speaking to the NPP party’s women’s wing, he said that the party would choose Dr. Bawumia to be its leader notwithstanding Alan Kyerematen’s “Eduru meso.’’
He said during his presentation, which 1Family Radio was listening to, “Now, we would tell him frankly that whether it’s his turn or not, we would let Bawumia lead us; it’s Bawumia that we are going with.
The Majority Chief Whip recalled how, during the 2012 election litigation, Dr. Bawumia, who was President Akufo-Addo’s running mate at the time, represented and defended the NPP party before the Supreme Court.
He claimed that although the vice president wasn’t a lawyer, he volunteered to represent the party because there were well-known lawyers in the party.
Because of his willingness to defend the party when no one else was, he is sure that Dr. Bawumia is the candidate deserving of the opportunity to lead.
“NPP is the only party with the greatest lawyers yet; Dr. Bawumia took it upon himself that he was going to save the party, while someone claimed it wasn’t yet his turn.’’
“So now let him be told that whether it’s his turn or not, Bawumia will go,’’ he said.
