Yaw Buaben Asamoa, Ghanaian politician and the campaign leader for Alan Kyerematen, a flagbearer aspirant of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has taken a swipe at the presidential bid of Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
According to him, the position of Dr. Bawumia has given him some sort of advantage over the other contenders in the flagbearership contest.
Speaking in an interview monitored by 1Family Radio, Mr. Buaben disclosed that the vice president is using public resources to run his presidential campaign, adding that some ministerial appointees and lawmakers campaign for him at the expense of their duties.
“State appointees and ministers are the ones who are campaigning for the vice president.’’
“Appointees with access to state resources are the ones campaigning for you in state-fueled vehicles. That is an incumbency advantage,’’ he said.
The former Communication Director of the NPPP continued that Dr. Bawumia has been in power for the past sixteen years, therefore, it is time for him to step aside and allow people with fresh brains and ideas to rule.
“It is time for him to allow a fresh brain, fresh mind, and someone with new ideas to take over and offer the party a new direction and vision in 2024,’’ Yaw remarked.
He however, noted that the former Minister of Trade and Industry, Alan Kyerematen is not bothered about the incumbency advantage Dr. Bawumia is enjoying.
“We are not bothered by these things. But these are the facts. Dr. Bawumia is enjoying incumbency, and he cannot deny these facts,’’ he added.
