The Electoral Commission (EC) has been subjected to severe criticism by netizens over its response to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and Sammy Gyamfi, the Director of Communications of the party.
In a press release on Tuesday, June 6, 2023, the EC alleged that the NDC, over the years, has only put out false claims aimed at maligning the integrity of the EC.
The EC’s response was in reaction to the claims by Sammy Gyamfi that the EC and the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) are conspiring to give the NPP aspirant an upper hand in the upcoming Assin North by-election by sneaking an unregistered voter into the register.
In the press release, the EC urged all Ghanaians to ignore the allegations by Sammy Gyamfi and his party because their allegations are nothing but figments of their imagination.
“Over the years, Sammy Gyamfi and his party have put out false claims aimed at maligning the integrity of the EC,’’ the commission noted in the statement sighted by 1Family Radio.
“This was evident in their petition to the Supreme Court after the 2020 Elections, alleging that they had won the election. It is well known that they could not provide evidence in court to support their allegations.’’
“This current allegation is no different. It is baseless, unfounded, and a figment of the imagination of the National Communication Officer. We call on all well-meaning Ghanaians to ignore it,’’ it noted.
This statement by the EC has attracted so many reactions and criticisms from Ghanaians who believe the tone of the EC’s response is political.
According to these netizens, the statement by the EC has proven that the opponents of the NDC are the NPP and the EC.
