Former President John Dramani Mahama has projected that if the National Democratic Congress (NDC) wins power in the 2024 general elections, their main focus will be on fighting against bribery and corruption in the country.
According to him, corruption has been a menace to this country and it has been a means through which public resources are squandered.
Speaking to some party delegates at Garu in the Upper East Region of Ghana which was monitored by 1Family Radio, the politician stated that his next government will deal severely with anyone found guilty of this act irrespective of his political affiliation.
“When the NDC comes into office, we will launch a robust fight against corruption because this act has been a major waste pipe in the country,’’ he said.
“Anybody who confiscate public resources must be brought to book and punished and this is what the NDC intends on doing in our next government,’’ Mahama noted.
He continued that the NDC will ensure that the law applies equally to anyone found in this act notwithstanding their political affiliations.
“Irrespective of the political party affiliations, the NDC will ensure that the punishment is meted out equally and everyone who spends state funds will suffer for it.’’
The former president promised to review and improve the Free SHS policy to assuage the predicament of Ghanaian parents.
“The Free SHS policy is not functioning well because Ghanaian parents are not getting the relief they were promised. I can boldly say that the amount of money parents spend today to take their wards to school is far huge than what they used to spend in the past when they were paying school fees,’’ Mahama indicated.
“We will fix the Free SHS and make it better while eliminating the current double track system,’’ the former president added.
