Recently, Afena Gyan has been the topic for discussion in the world of football after he allegedly rejected an invitation from Tanko Ibrahim, the coach of the Black Meteors for the AFCON U-23 qualifiers against Algeria.
The decision by the Afena Gyan has caused some controversies on social media as some netizens have applauded the player for declining the call-up considering how he was ill-treated by the senior national football team while other section of Ghanaians were wondering why he rejected the offer.
Speaking in an interview on Kumasi-based Pure FM monitored by 1Family Radio, the uncle of the player disclosed that Gyan is not in the right frame of mind because of the way the Black Stars disregarded him during the Qatar World Cup.
He pleaded with Ghanaians to exercise patience with the boy and consider what the authorities said before Afena Gyan played for the Black Stars in the playoffs against Nigeria.
According to Mr. Abrefa, although the player wasn’t ready at the time of the playoffs, the GFA authorities persuaded him into playing for the senior national team and Afena Gyan was able to impress majority of Ghanaians with his performance but they ignore him during the World Cup.
Mr. Abrefa stated the authorities should have reached out to Afena on why he wasn’t selected to join the squad for the World Cup in 2022 but they neglected him without any explanation.
“Even if you wouldn’t invite to join the squad, explain thing to the boy for him to psyche himself up. At least promise him of future call-ups rather than disregarding him like they did,’’ he stated.
