Sophia Akuffo, the former Chief Justice has advised that government should use the money allocated for the celebration of our independence-day to embark on developmental projects in deprived communities.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Citi FM monitored by 1Family Radio, Sophia indicated that instead of commemorating independence-day in different regions every year, the government should rather select a deprived district and build an infrastructure for them.
She acknowledged that there’s nothing wrong with observing the day but it should be done a way that will serve the interest of the nation. According to her, the best way to do this is by selecting a deprive district every year and build a school or renovate a hospital and then name it as Independence school or hospital.
“I suggest that every year, we select a region and pick a project and do it,” she stated. The former Chief Justice believes that this will be a wise way to spend money because this will benefit Ghanaians and it will be a memorial facility.
