The Bible Society of Ghana appeals for financial assistance in the translation of the Bible to local languages.
Here in Ghana, we have over thirty local languages and the society has been able to translate the Bible into nine different local languages. According to the society, with one verse translation costing $2, translating all the 31,102 of the Bible makes a total of $622,040.
This statement was made by Pastor Addico, a bookshop officer of the society at the Bible Week Celebration on February 12, 2023 at the Bethel Evangelical Church in Accra.
The Very Rev. Dr Addo indicated that the society aims at translating the Bible into the Okere, the Bono languages and Efutu-Senya. They are also working on a sign language Bible for people with hearing-impairment.
The Most Rev. Titus Awotwi, a former Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church Ghana also urged Christians to help in the translating of the Bible into other languages in order to make it reachable to everyone.
He also called on Christians who are enriched in the local languages to assist the society in the translation of Bible into their local languages.
Rev. Dr Setri Nyomi, a pastor of the Evangelical Presbyterian church, hinted that some pastors twist the meaning of some Bible verses in an attempt to interpret it in the local languages. He added that this could lead Christians astray.
He continued that Christians must find hope and solace in God’s word during this economic hardship.
