Asiedu Nketiah, the former General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress and the current National Chairman of the party has finally voiced his motives for changing the minority caucus in parliament.
He made this statement during a meeting at the Chatham House located in London. General mosquito stated that the motive behind the decision by the NEC is the discord between the minority caucus in parliament and the speaker of parliament, Hon. Alban Bagbin.
Asiedu Nketiah futhered that they didn’t suffer to make one of their party members the Speaker of Parliament for no reason. He therefore doesn’t fathom why the majority caucus are amicable towards the speaker and the minority caucus of the party in parliament are hostile towards him.
He stated that his main objective is to have a minority caucus that complies with the Speaker of Parliament and not the other way round. Asiedu Nketiah noted that having a party member as the Speaker of Parliament comes with certain benefits and these benefits can only be useful if the minority caucus works with the speaker. However, the former minority caucus failed to comply with the speaker.
The National Chairman also mentioned that the discord between the minority leadership and the Speaker triggered the decision of the NEC of the party. They couldn’t ignore how the NPP leadership in parliament works with Alban Bagbin while the NDC leadership do the exact opposite.
The former secretary concluded that the NEC changed the minority leadership in parliament because they are only seeking the welfare of the party and also because they are equipped with the power to do so.
