In a press release, Professor Peter Twumasi, the director general of the National Sports Authority (NSA), announced that the Accra Sports Stadium will not be open for business throughout the month of December.
Professor Peter asked every Ghanaian club that uses the stadium to please look for another location so that their league matches can be held there.
Clubs like the Accra Hearts of Oak and the Accra Great Olympics, which utilize the stadiums as their home fields, would now have to play their games in other stadiums.
Journalist and sports presenter Fentuo Tahiru expressed his dissatisfaction with Professor Peter’s decision in a post on his X handle, writing, “He [referring to Peter] has closed the Accra Sports Stadium so he can use it to host concerts.”
After hosting his concerts, Fentuo thinks the NSA director general won’t be able to pay the stadium’s electrical bills; therefore, the Electrical Company of Ghana [ECG] would turn off the power to make up for it.
Tahiru also thinks that in January 2024, the park will resemble a desert and its overall health will be in danger.
