Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwah, the Member of Parliament [MP] for North Tongu, declared that during the minister’s visit to the region, he did not receive any kind of personal donation from Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta.
In an interview with Nathan Kwabena Adisi, better known online as Bola Ray, on Starr Chat on GHOne TV, which 1Family Radio carefully follows, the MP claimed that the impressions given by the images that are currently making the rounds on social media are entirely untrue.
It is crucial to make it clear that the Finance Minister has not given me a personal donation. I want the emphasis and those photos to give me the feeling that I’ve been given something. Because, as you can see from the closely cropped photos, he was astonished when I showed him the extent of the destruction during our trip. said the MP.
The Akosombo Dam overflow has destroyed over 1,500 dwellings, displacing over 12,000 people in the North Tongu area alone, according to data supplied by the National Disaster Management Organization [NADMO].
Due to the eight impacted districts—South and Central Tongu, Anlo, Asougyaman, and Ada East, among others—the figures rise to well over 26,000 affected individuals.
The government still hasn’t released a plan for the victims’ resettlement, and they are still being housed in camps and schools weeks after the tragedy.
