Prof. Kobby Mensah, a renowned political marketing strategist, has expressed reservations regarding the candidates selected by the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the 2024 elections.
He claims that the unsatisfactory performance of two of the four candidates during the current administration’s tenure in office casts doubt on their chances of winning the general elections.
Speaking on JoyNews’ PM Express, which 1Family Radio monitored, Prof. Mensah said that vice president Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and former minister of food and agriculture, Dr. Afriyie Akoto, who are running to represent the NPP in the general election of 2024, have marred their political reputations because of their appalling performance while in government.
Prof. Mensah, who is renowned for his astute understanding of political tactics, voiced skepticism about the two candidates’ capacity to govern the country and declared that the ruling party was “for the first time, presenting very weak candidates.”
Prof. Mensah was particularly concerned about the dire state of the economic administration under the NPP, with Dr. Bawumia leading the Economic Management Team.
“Economic management has been in shambles, and I’m surprised that they are trying to tout Dr. Bawumia’s credentials,’’ he said.
Further criticized by the political strategist was Dr. Bawumia’s oblique silence on economic problems since the onset of the nation’s financial crisis.
“I have never heard Dr. Bawumia speak about the economy since the economy started plummeting.”
“Let us be frank; whenever they have spoken, they’ve attributed our economic woes to Ukraine and COVID-19, but everybody knows that they have mismanaged the economy,” he added.
Prof. Mensah turned to Dr. Afryie Akoto and questioned the Food and Agriculture Ministry’s performance under his leadership.
He mentioned the “Planting for Food and Jobs” program in particular, claiming that it was in disarray.
