Sister Derby, also known as Deborah Vanessa Owusu-Bonsu, has declared that she is not ready for love relationships because they interfere with her life.
She mentioned that she finds it easier to live a solitary life free from worries about men, as the time and energy she devotes to her spouse tends to slow her down.
The musician revealed that she feels wounded when her partner does not return the kindness and affection she gives them, which is one of the reasons for her decision to remain single for the time being in order to concentrate on herself.
The African Mermaid discussed the factors that influenced her choice to remain single and avoid getting entangled in relationships in an interview with Okay FM that was monitored by 1Family Radio.
“It’s not something I’m looking forward to or looking at at all. I’m not with anybody, but I’m not interested. I’m not looking to be with anybody because that is not my focus,’’ she revealed.
“The thing is, when I’m in a relationship, I put a lot of energy and resources into that person, which slows me down. It’s not like the men demand it. Well, maybe they demand it unconsciously, but it’s not good for me because I’m too caring and too kind.’’
Sister Derby went on to say that she finds it irritating when men take advantage of her after loving and caring for them.
“Even if I’m not in a relationship with someone, I put people around me first. So imagine I’m in a relationship with somebody. I give it my all. Sometimes, when I notice they are not doing the same or taking advantage, it puts me off. So I always just advise myself. I hope you get what I am saying?’’ she added.
