Inaki Williams, a forward for the Black Stars, has talked about how his parents once traveled from Ghana to Spain.
The Athletic Bilbao star revealed in an extensive interview with ESPN for a charitable organization, which was followed by 1Family Radio, that his parents traveled by foot from Accra to Bilbao, Spain.
Both my parents were Ghanaian citizens. My father said to my pregnant mother, “Let’s leave this place.” And through the desert they went.
To survive, they had to consume their own urine. My father was barefoot, the sand scorching the bottoms of his feet. “They had to bury those who passed away while traveling,” he continued.
Professional football player Inaki Williams Arthur represents both the Ghana national team and La Liga club Athletic Bilbao as a forward.
He was raised at Athletic Bilbao’s academy and earned over 375 first-team appearances for the team, setting a record with 251 straight games played in the Liga. From Ghana, my parents made their way to Bilbao on foot.
