Lydia Maame Yaa Konamaz, co-host of UTV’s Adekye Nsroma, has refuted accusations that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) leadership sent a letter to UTV management critiquing the purported politicization of United Showbiz.
She asserts that the NPP never sent an official letter to the administration of the private media organization; instead, the letter was circulated by the political party.
A group of people who were allegedly connected to the NPP interrupted the live broadcast of the entertainment event on Saturday, October 7, 2023, and that is when this controversy began.
These unidentified guys claim that A Plus, a pundit on the program, tore apart a letter the NPP issued to address their reservations.
Despite apologizing to UTV, the NPP insisted that they had written to the network to express their displeasure with the apparent politicization of the program.
Yaa Konamah, however, disclosed that UTV’s management never received the alleged letter.
“That letter, they circulated it. Our management has remained silent on it, but you circulated the letter without giving it to the general manager you addressed it to. Call Kennedy Osei Asante and ask him if he ever received the letter; he didn’t,’’ Yaa fumed.
“And for your information, the leaders of the NPP came to apologize. In public, they attacked us and later came to apologize. The said letter was never sent to the General Manager of Despite Media and UTV. And so, the section of the public saying we gave the letter to A Plus, we didn’t,’’ she clarified.
She further explained that while the hostess of Showbiz’s behavior didn’t prevent analyst A-Plus from tearing up the letter, there are no legal justifications for the activities of the purported NPP members.
“Granted per adventure, Miss Gee didn’t alert A-Plus that it was a confidential letter, but the letter was circulating in the public, and what crime has he committed that he tore a letter belonging to someone? Morally, he didn’t show respect, but there was nothing wrong with it; it wasn’t defamatory,’’ she said.
