Embattled former Sanitation Minister Cecilia Dapaah has refuted claims made by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) with respect to funds received from a bank account associated with her late brother.
Cecilia refuted any suggestion that the cash and other assets taken from her home were of dubious origin in reaction to paperwork the OSP filed in an effort to validate a further seizure of funds.
The former minister’s late brother had a bank account that the OSP had disclosed to the court was still open and, despite its alleged inactivity, had lately sent money to her account.
In response to this claim, the former minister explained that the money in question was deposited from an account she is a signatory to that is particularly designated to collect funeral gifts for her late brother and is named “The Late Nana Akwasi Essan.”
She also stated that the money sent to her bank account was for the purpose of paying the tuition for the kids of her deceased brother.
The former minister denied any claims of financial improperness in a sworn affidavit by emphasizing the fact that the transactions were quite normal and uncontroversial.
In her affidavit, which was sighted by 1Family Radio, she explained that the said funds ‘’were transferred from Cal Bank from an account in the name ‘The late Nana Akwasi Essan’ to which I am a signatory, adding that “this account was opened with funeral donations collected by Cal Bank at my late brother’s funeral.’’
“The correct account name is conspicuously stated in the applicant’s exhibit OSP18, and the applicant could easily have ascertained the mandate on the account from Cal Bank. The funds are transferred to me for payment of the school fees of my late brother’s children,’’ she stated.
