Ghanaian actress and entrepreneur Beverly Afaglo has alleged that the Ghana movie industry is dead, contrary to the views of some stakeholders.
The Ghanaian film industry has undergone very little or no modification over the years, and several actors have expressed outrage over the decline of the creative sector as a consequence of many of the actors pursuing other side businesses.
In an interview on UTV’s United Showbiz, which was monitored by 1Family Radio, Beverly claimed that hope was all they had before but that the prospect of recovering seemed unrealistic.
“We were holding onto hope, thinking it would bounce back, but it seems far-fetched; truth be told, the industry is dead.’’
She continued, “I was having a conversation with one of my colleagues about the industry, but in conclusion, we realized there is absolutely nothing happening towards reviving the industry. It is pretty worrying.’’
“Only Akwaaba Magic on DSTV produces content lately by contracting producers like Shirley Frimpong Manso, Ivan Quarshigah, and Smartys Productions.”
“We are doing the best we can, but it is not working; our very own actors turned producers don’t even get their returns when they invest in production,’’ she disclosed.
