Ghanaian businessman and founder of the United Progressive Party (UPP), Akwasi Addai Odike, has stated that he is ready for the military or anyone who decides to engage in a coup d’état.
He contends that Ghana is already experiencing an authoritarian government under President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, one that is more severe than any military dictatorship the nation has ever known.
He made this statement in an interview with Kofi TV on Wednesday, August 2, 2023, which was monitored by 1Family Radio.
The last source of pure water left in the nation, the Volta Lake, is now being impacted by Galamsey, according to Odike, who claims the president is ruining the nation.
“Ankobra was envisioned for hydroelectric energy production; Pra, Offin, all these significant water bodies have been destroyed,’’ he said.
“They have now reached the Akosombo dam. Ehh! Kofi, we would back a coup if it occurred today. I’m saying that I would be the first person to endorse it if a soldier pulled a gun today.’’
According to him, the Akufo-Addo government is going after people and crushing their businesses in a manner similar to a military regime.
Can Akufo-Addo encircle himself with his family and friends if Ghana is a democratic country? Would he say that he would erect a cathedral whether Ghanaians liked it or not? He quizzed.
