The president and some party members have been admonished by Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, a flagbearer candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), not to campaign for Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
He claims that the vice president appears to have a distinct edge over the other candidates as a result of his position.
Additionally, he stated that some party members and supporters are being forced to campaign for Dr. Bawumia against their will.
Speaking in an interview on Peace FM, monitored by 1Family Radio, the politician pleaded with the NPP party’s leadership to let Dr. Bawumia run his campaign independently of the president or the NPP party’s financial backing.
Since Dr. Bawumia has served as vice president for seven years and can stand on his own, it is appropriate to allow him to run his own campaign.
“It’s difficult; we raise our own campaign funds, but he is fortunate as vice president because of state resources, including vehicles and fuel,” he remarked.
Kwabena Agyepong argued that they needed to let him manage his own campaign without these logistical aids.
“The president cannot play the ostrich and claim he is unaware of what is happening,” the politician added.
