Saint Osei, the spokesperson for the Accra Great Olympics, has stated that the club made the right decision in sacking former coach Yaw Preko.
According to him, it was never a mistake for the club to expel the coach, and his removal is not the cause of the problems the club is currently facing.
The club’s management parted ways with the former Hearts of Oak player in February after he started the season as head coach in Annor Walker’s place but then suffered several significant losses.
The club hasn’t been able to bounce back since Bismark Kobi Mensah took control with the intention of improving the club’s fortunes. The club stands the risk of being relegated as they are in 16th place with 42 points.
We didn’t have anything against Yaw; let me make that clear. Whatever I say is supported by the minutes. There are clauses that you check before hiring a coach,’’ he noted in an interview on Peace FM, monitored by 1Family Radio.
“For instance, in the case that you are unable to accumulate this number of points, this is what will occur. Therefore, it doesn’t imply that we despise Yaw.’’
“Yaw is an excellent coach, but you see, there are occasions when the strategy you are using to unpin doesn’t quite fit the situation. The coach should be liberated of his duties so that he can relax and renew his mind,’’ he said.
“You might find it interesting to know that Yaw Preko can take another team and win the league with them, which is why we don’t fire coaches but rather sit down with them and come to an amicable agreement to split ways,’’ Osei added.
