Former Deputy Minister of Education under the Kufuor-led administration, Mr. Joe Donkor, has asserted that it’s high time President Akuffo-Addo listened to the opinion of the masses and expelled Ken Ofori-Atta, the Finance Minister.
In his perspective, the president must be open to the opinions of the general public, even if he is the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer and likely knows what is best for the party.
Speaking in an interview on Accra FM, monitored by 1Family Radio, the politician noted that Ken Ofori-Atta must step down to preserve the reputation of the NPP.
“If the masses are saying he must go, he must be shown the exit to bring some glory to the party going into the 2024 general elections,’’ he stated.
He proceeded by saying that the NPP party would undoubtedly suffer as a result of the president’s intransigence toward the demands of the people.
He said, “This must be done for the party’s sake going into the 2024 general elections, or we will pay severely for this.
Mr. Donkor argued that because former President Agyekum Kufuor fired his transport minister for having an extramarital affair after listening to the opinions of the people, the current president ought to do the same and also fire the finance minister.
“Former President John Agyekum Kufuor did it with Mr. Richard Anane when he was the Transport Minister. When there was some public outcry about him when he got entangled in extramarital affairs, the then president listened to the cry of the people and asked his long-time friend to exit his government,’’ he narrated.
“If the president doesn’t listen to the masses, it will come back to haunt the NPP going into the next election,’’ Donkor said.
